Motherhood has long been celebrated as a role of boundless love, sacrifice, and strength. But beneath the surface of bedtime stories, school pickups, and holding the family together, many mothers are quietly carrying an invisible weight. Mental health challenges, particularly postpartum anxiety and depression, often go unspoken—dismissed as just part of the journey.

At Jane’s Joint, we believe it’s time to change that conversation.

The Mental Load of Motherhood

From day one, mothers are expected to do it all. Birth, nurture, feed, manage schedules, work jobs, keep households functioning, and somehow maintain their own well-being in the margins. This compounded pressure—what psychologists often refer to as “the mental load”—can lead to chronic stress, sleep disruption, and emotional burnout. Add in hormonal shifts post-childbirth, and it’s no surprise that 1 in 7 women experiences postpartum depression, with many more experiencing anxiety, mood swings, and identity loss.

The burden grows heavier for Black and Brown mothers, who often face greater disparities in healthcare access, stigma, and societal expectations to persevere despite it all.

It’s no wonder so many mothers are quietly seeking alternatives. One of the most misunderstood—and most promising—is cannabis.

Breaking the Stigma: Women, Weed & Wellness

For decades, cannabis use by mothers was stigmatized, seen as irresponsible or even dangerous. The cultural narrative rarely allowed space for nuance, healing, or science. But that narrative is shifting.

Mothers across the country are speaking openly about how cannabis helps them manage stress, find balance, sleep better, and simply breathe. They’re not looking to check out—they’re looking to show up more fully. Many use low-dose products intentionally: a microdose gummy to ease anxious thoughts, a soothing tincture before bed, or a vape pen for a mindful moment of calm after the kids are down.

“I use cannabis because I want to be present with my kids—not irritable and running on fumes. A few drops of CBD:THC oil in the evening helps me come back to myself. It’s not about escaping. It’s about reclaiming my peace.”

—Shannon R., mother of two

Beyond therapeutic relief, cannabis is also a tool for joy and connection. Some mothers use it to ease social anxiety and reclaim a sense of self that often gets buried in caregiving. Whether it’s a cannabis-infused mocktail at a gathering or a calming edible on a quiet Sunday, consumption can be both purposeful and pleasurable.

“Cannabis helps me unwind in a way that feels safe and healthy. Sometimes I use it to cope, sometimes just to laugh and connect with friends again. It allows me to be present."

—Kara F., single mom and creative entrepreneur

The Science: A Plant With Feminine Energy

Here’s a beautiful irony: the cannabis plant is predominantly female. The part of the plant we consume—the one rich in cannabinoids like THC and CBD—comes from female flowers. These are the parts that offer healing, relaxation, and euphoria.

It's only fitting that women are reclaiming wellness through a plant that embodies feminine strength and healing.

Cannabis interacts with the body’s endocannabinoid system—a network of receptors that helps regulate mood, sleep, appetite, and stress. When used thoughtfully, cannabis supports balance in a body that’s often overworked and under-cared for.

At Jane’s Joint, our mission is to educate and empower women to explore these benefits safely, confidently, and without shame.

“During my battle with cancer, I discovered cannabis not just as medicine—but as a way to reclaim myself. It became a part of my healing, both physically and emotionally. That experience is why I created Jane’s Joint: a space where women—especially mothers—can learn, explore, and access cannabis with care.”

—Trina Ragsdale, Founder of Jane’s Joint
